Finnish Biodiversity Information Facility - FinBIF is open

Published 9.6.2015 - 13:42. Modified 9.6.2015 - 13:54. — Eija-Leena Laiho Release

The Finnish Biodiversity Information Facility – FinBIF had an opening seminar on May 22. The FinBIF-project lead by the Finnish Museum of Natural History is a component of a larger aggregate project Envibase administrated by the Finnish Environment Institute (SYKE).

During this three-year project, FinBIF develops methods and tools to support e.g. biodiversity monitoring and research. One of the main aims of the project is to promote and apply open data concept. The core information such as taxonomy and location data will be unified, which allows combining data from different data sources to one data warehouse. An easy to use portal will be built for data sharing. A new observation and monitoring system as well as a collection management system open to all Finnish collections of natural history are also under development.

The development version of the portal is now open: www.species.fi. Feedback is welcome (info@laji.fi)

The opening seminar was mainly in Finnish - except for GBIF representative Dmitry Schigel's presentation:
